Mathematical Programming using OPL-CPLEX

Program Objective

Many Enterprises, irrespective of their size, are still resort to decision making using excel, at best, or gut feeling, at worst. Such decision making process not only takes long time to plan, but it also results in sub-optimal resource utilization, leading to higher expenses and capital requirement.

Decisions - such as "where to put the new plant?", "How much should be the capacity of different plants?", "What should be the production schedule?", "How much inventory should be held and where?", "How the orders can be delivered cost-effectively?" - can be made using scientifically proven models. Resorting to such decision making helps companies to reduce operational expenses and capital requirement.

Decision systems using such mathematical models help companies to plan and replan in minutes. Such agility helps companies to cope with, and profit from, dynamic business environment.

Program Benefits

The participants are exposed to, and gain working knowledge on:

  • How to analyse business decision making process.
  • Identify different drivers of business decisions
  • How to model such decision requirements into mathematical modelling.
  • How to convert such mathematical models into ILOG OPL Code.
  • How to debug and tune the models for performance
  • How to integrate the Optimization model in an IT Solution (DSS)
  • How to deal with model scalability issues

Teaching Methodology

The programme is delivered using formal lectures combined with practical and interactive case studies and exercises to reinforce concepts covered in each session. The use of ILOG OPL Studio will be emphasised from the start. It will be assumed that delegates have a basic working knowledge of Excel, operations research (LP & IP fundamentals), and programming language (C / Java). Emphasis is placed on delegates gaining practical, hands-on experience of the design and construction of optimization models using ILOG OPL Studio.
