(Source GARP) Candidates for the ERP are expected to have some energy industry experience and a general understanding of one or more of its component commodities. In order to be certified as an Energy Risk Professional and be able to use the ERP acronym after your name, the following is required:

• A passing score on the ERP Examination

• Active Individual membership in the Global Association of Risk Professionals

• A minimum of two years experience in the area of financial or energy risk management or another related field including, but not limited to, trading, portfolio management, academic or industry research, economics, auditing, risk consulting, risk technology, and/or physical energy fields like exploration, production, shipping, and processing.

Important:  You have 5 years from the time that you pass the ERP Exam to submit your 2 years of work experience. If you do not submit your 2 years of professional work experience during those 5 years, you will be required to re-sit for the ERP Exam.
Earning the right to use “ERP” after your name demonstrates professionalism and dedication to the profession. Thus, having experience is important to assure the ERP designation maintains its status as the certification for energy risk professionals worldwide.
